Monday Made It #5 - Woop! Woop!!

Holy smokes gang, this linky has been sooooooooo fun!!!!  I am blown away by the sweet comments and tons of inspiration and creativity!!!!!  You guys are awesome!!!!!  Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!!

Also, I wanted to add......I have gotten several comments that you may have something but it's not done....no worries......you can join this linky ANY time this week:D

Ok, soooooooooo, this week I had to have a serious chat with myself.

I don't know about you all, but I have gotten very caught up in this funness (yes, Mr. Spell checker...it's a word today...step back) and have gotten carried away with the "cute classroom stuff" and blown off the "functional classroom" stuff.  The "cute classroom stuff" is so much more fun to make BUT I am running out of summer so really need to put my brain to work and start creating, printing, laminating, and cutting out some "functional classroom stuff".

So, having said that....my "functional" Classroom Made It is this:

We use the Pearson Math series.  I have been reading Guided Math (LOVE) and am going to change my whole Math block around.  One major thing that I read that really jumped out at me was how we need to make our classrooms numeracy rich.  (I'm working on a Math workshop set and interactive bulletin board.)  So, I went through the book and made cute little vocab cards to go with the whole series.  I plan on using these with each unit to introduce the words and then have the kiddos write/make examples of each to be displayed with the words.

See "functional" not fun.......that's 54 words I laminated and cut out......:/

BUT they will be a wonderful addition to my classroom!

Now, before I intro my "cute" classroom made it, I have to tell you a funny story.  So I am off to Hobby Lobby Saturday with my girl to get the last 2 knobs I needed for my turquoise dresser.  As we are walking around, it dawns on me............................................um, me, the host of Monday Made It, DIDN'T have a Monday Made It!!!!!!!!  What?!  Where did the time go?????  I have been distracted....like seriously......Oh, it gets worse people.....because I overwhelm in a second.....I did.......and I couldn't think...........and I was freaking out going up and down the isles of Hobby Lobby trying to figure out what I was going to do.........again, my head.......not a fun place to be sometimes!!!!!!  After several minutes of panic and a few laps around the store, my idea hit me:D

My "cute" Classroom Made It: (you know I couldn't NOT do one:)))))
I know I have posted about how the word "believe" is one of my favorite words.  I have it several places in my classroom.  I try really hard to get each of my littles to believe in themselves, so I (well, Tay and I) made a believe sign.

I'm such a spaz.....halfway through I remembered to take pics....sorry but it's pretty easy.  Of course Hobby Lobby is my new fave place:)  We got little wooden letters and a canvas.  I had everything else I needed.  I painted the letters.
(That's the letters on my painting canvas and the canvas is on my chippy not dirty table.  Again I ask you to see Farley's post here about chippy not dirty.  The table is an antique from an old farm house.  I have it with new chairs from Pier One and I love it and the mix:)  There I go again...sorry...focus.....

Then Tay painted the canvas super cute.
The dots are painted, the little black dots around the big dots are a paint pen.
Then I glued on the letters and a ribbon and that's it:)

My Home Made It:
It's my jewelry holder.  Quite a while ago, I bought on old window screen to hang my jewelry on.
The hook earrings just hook right through the screen.  I used curtain hooks to put into the screen to hang necklaces.  Since I (we) painted my room the yummy gray this chippy green frame didn't work so I repainted it.  I actually used a metallic paint which I thought looked kinda fun.  Here is the result:
I'm loving it:)  I sanded it down in spots too:)

So there ya have it:)  I made "functional", "cute" and home made its!
Grab your coffee, a notepad to write down all the fun ideas, please leave me some love if ya feel like it, grab my button, and link up:)
Thanks guys:D

  2. Tara thanks for the reminder about the functional classroom stuff. The summer is slipping away quickly and it is time for me to hunker down and put things in priority. I love the idea of doing functional, cute and home, I'm going to try that this week. Thanks for hosting this party : )

  3. It cracks me up that as the host of Monday Made It that you temporarily forgot about making something (cute anyway). You pulled off a great one. I think the believe sign is perfect.

Thanks again for putting this all together. It's been great fun!

  6. Your FUNctional is FUN! You could have just handwritten your vocab words on those plain 'ol sentence strips but you didn't. You made them so FUN by adding the FUN font and the FUN background. I actually think I am trying to convince myself that the functional things are fun. I haven't started any of that kind of stuff either. Guess I'll do better this week (sigh).

LOVE the sign and love this party! Thanks so much for being an awesome hostess!

  15. I love your functional math words! I have that same task on my summer to do list, but I was going to write them on cute sentence stirps I found at Dollar Tree. However, now that I see yours, I'm thinking I might just type them up! Way cuter (I hate my handwriting). Your beieve sign is super cute too-I wish my room had unlimited wall space!

  21. I love your believe sign. That's my big thing during the year too - I want my students to believe in themselves and their dreams. So many of them have heard too many times that they can't do it... it's sad. It's also so amazing with what they achieve once they do believe in themselves. Thanks for sharing, and thanks for the link up.

  25. Do you use EnVision by Pearson? That's what we use. That's a good idea with the vocab cards, I just wonder how much I'll actually use the math book this year with us moving to Common Core.

    2. I don't think we do. We have had EnVision for 3 years now. Our reading series adoption has expired and the county didn't get anything new, so I doubt we get a new math series in a couple of years either.

  31. Hi..I just linked up. My is sort of unconventional. Kim at Finding Joy in 6th Grade saw a post on my blog this weekend and suggested I link up about a cake I made this weekend. I am still in "summer vacay" mode so I have not really made anything for my classroom..but I am "thinking" about it! Maybe for the next Made it Monday. Thanks for hosting this..what a super idea for sharing ideas!
