Monday Made It #5 - Woop! Woop!!

Holy smokes gang, this linky has been sooooooooo fun!!!!  I am blown away by the sweet comments and tons of inspiration and creativity!!!!!  You guys are awesome!!!!!  Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!!

Also, I wanted to add......I have gotten several comments that you may have something but it's not can join this linky ANY time this week:D

Ok, soooooooooo, this week I had to have a serious chat with myself.

I don't know about you all, but I have gotten very caught up in this funness (yes, Mr. Spell's a word today...step back) and have gotten carried away with the "cute classroom stuff" and blown off the "functional classroom" stuff.  The "cute classroom stuff" is so much more fun to make BUT I am running out of summer so really need to put my brain to work and start creating, printing, laminating, and cutting out some "functional classroom stuff".

So, having said "functional" Classroom Made It is this:

We use the Pearson Math series.  I have been reading Guided Math (LOVE) and am going to change my whole Math block around.  One major thing that I read that really jumped out at me was how we need to make our classrooms numeracy rich.  (I'm working on a Math workshop set and interactive bulletin board.)  So, I went through the book and made cute little vocab cards to go with the whole series.  I plan on using these with each unit to introduce the words and then have the kiddos write/make examples of each to be displayed with the words.

See "functional" not fun.......that's 54 words I laminated and cut out......:/

BUT they will be a wonderful addition to my classroom!

Now, before I intro my "cute" classroom made it, I have to tell you a funny story.  So I am off to Hobby Lobby Saturday with my girl to get the last 2 knobs I needed for my turquoise dresser.  As we are walking around, it dawns on, me, the host of Monday Made It, DIDN'T have a Monday Made It!!!!!!!!  What?!  Where did the time go?????  I have been seriously......Oh, it gets worse people.....because I overwhelm in a second.....I did.......and I couldn't think...........and I was freaking out going up and down the isles of Hobby Lobby trying to figure out what I was going to do.........again, my head.......not a fun place to be sometimes!!!!!!  After several minutes of panic and a few laps around the store, my idea hit me:D

My "cute" Classroom Made It: (you know I couldn't NOT do one:)))))
I know I have posted about how the word "believe" is one of my favorite words.  I have it several places in my classroom.  I try really hard to get each of my littles to believe in themselves, so I (well, Tay and I) made a believe sign.

I'm such a spaz.....halfway through I remembered to take pics....sorry but it's pretty easy.  Of course Hobby Lobby is my new fave place:)  We got little wooden letters and a canvas.  I had everything else I needed.  I painted the letters.
(That's the letters on my painting canvas and the canvas is on my chippy not dirty table.  Again I ask you to see Farley's post here about chippy not dirty.  The table is an antique from an old farm house.  I have it with new chairs from Pier One and I love it and the mix:)  There I go again...sorry...focus.....

Then Tay painted the canvas super cute.
The dots are painted, the little black dots around the big dots are a paint pen.
Then I glued on the letters and a ribbon and that's it:)

My Home Made It:
It's my jewelry holder.  Quite a while ago, I bought on old window screen to hang my jewelry on.
The hook earrings just hook right through the screen.  I used curtain hooks to put into the screen to hang necklaces.  Since I (we) painted my room the yummy gray this chippy green frame didn't work so I repainted it.  I actually used a metallic paint which I thought looked kinda fun.  Here is the result:
I'm loving it:)  I sanded it down in spots too:)

So there ya have it:)  I made "functional", "cute" and home made its!
Grab your coffee, a notepad to write down all the fun ideas, please leave me some love if ya feel like it, grab my button, and link up:)
Thanks guys:D

  1. I just linked up my first ever Monday Made It! So excited! Your wall hanging is beautiful! Now I feel like going to Hobby Lobby and doing this myself! Thanks for the inspiration:)

  2. Tara thanks for the reminder about the functional classroom stuff. The summer is slipping away quickly and it is time for me to hunker down and put things in priority. I love the idea of doing functional, cute and home, I'm going to try that this week. Thanks for hosting this party : )

  3. It cracks me up that as the host of Monday Made It that you temporarily forgot about making something (cute anyway). You pulled off a great one. I think the believe sign is perfect.

Thanks again for putting this all together. It's been great fun!

  4. Love that believe sign!

    I Heart Teaching Elementary

  5. I am LOVING your believe sign!!! I need one for my room - but maybe something else?? And I actually finished TWO made-its THIS morning...but i'll save that for another Made it...because I got to link up my BATH-CRASHERS today!! yay!!!

  6. Your FUNctional is FUN! You could have just handwritten your vocab words on those plain 'ol sentence strips but you didn't. You made them so FUN by adding the FUN font and the FUN background. I actually think I am trying to convince myself that the functional things are fun. I haven't started any of that kind of stuff either. Guess I'll do better this week (sigh).

LOVE the sign and love this party! Thanks so much for being an awesome hostess!

  7. HI Tara! I love these " Made It Mondays". What a fabulous idea! I have had so much fun with this. Thank you! I really like the math vocab cards. These look great. I LOVE the jewelry holder.

  8. Love everything Tara! And I agree! I need to start focusing on some functional stuff too! But you can ALWAYS fit in some cute stuff, right?! I made an earring holder just like yours a few years ago but I decoupaged tissue paper onto it. I love mine!

  10. I love all your ideas...I am a fourth grade teacher using Pearson as well...Are you words available for download/purchase? It would save a huge amount of time!!

  11. I love the sign! Maybe I'll link up with my "functional" Monday made it. HaHa. I haven't had time for fun stuff, but I feel the printing, laminating, and cutting never stops :/

    Have a great day!

  13. I understand completely what you mean about blowing off the functional classroom stuff! I think after reading it in your post, you just made me realize that I need to focus on the functional too. I'm just having too much fun with the cutesy funness! :)

  14. I love your sign!! Too cute!! Thanks for once again sharing all of your AMAZING ideas!!

    Mrs. Wood's Class

  15. I love your functional math words! I have that same task on my summer to do list, but I was going to write them on cute sentence stirps I found at Dollar Tree. However, now that I see yours, I'm thinking I might just type them up! Way cuter (I hate my handwriting). Your beieve sign is super cute too-I wish my room had unlimited wall space!

  16. That screen is fabulous. I need it!!!

  17. I have another cute thing to add to my classroom. Looks like I'll be getting Sarah to paint me the same sign as you. I think I'm going to use the same design idea for my name above my door. I love how yours turned out.

Love the jewelry holder, too :)

And you progress with your vocab....and on and on and on....

  18. Love the believe sign and soooo excited to link up today.

  21. I love your believe sign. That's my big thing during the year too - I want my students to believe in themselves and their dreams. So many of them have heard too many times that they can't do it... it's sad. It's also so amazing with what they achieve once they do believe in themselves. Thanks for sharing, and thanks for the link up.

    I Love My Classroom

  22. Oooo,I love all of your projects!! I always wander around Hobby Lobby thinking about how far away Monday is and what I need to accomplish before then. Thank you for keeping me productive this summer!! All of these awesome ideas each week are going to totally spice up my classroom next year :)

  23. This linky party has been so much fun!! And it's kept me on track for not just letting my summer slip away.
    Thanks for doing this!

I Teach. What's Your Super Power?

  24. I absolutely agree with Megan! I love this linky party! I also had to make a functional Monday Made It this week but you rocked it with a cute classroom one and a home made it! I love it all!

Teaching with a Touch of Twang

  25. Do you use EnVision by Pearson? That's what we use. That's a good idea with the vocab cards, I just wonder how much I'll actually use the math book this year with us moving to Common Core.

Loved your sign!! Mine would NEVER turn out like that! Your daughter is very talented!

    fourth grade fanatics

    1. We used EnVision prior to Common Core too! We are now moving to Pearson Investigations. Do you have that? Ours came together when we adopted it 3 yrs ago

      Twins, Teaching and Tacos.

    2. I don't think we do. We have had EnVision for 3 years now. Our reading series adoption has expired and the county didn't get anything new, so I doubt we get a new math series in a couple of years either.

  26. Ok. "linked" up for the first time. But how do I grab the linky button thingy for my page?

  27. I'm a new follower and linker. :) Thanks!

  29. OK...I did it Tara. I am all linked up with some "craftiness" of my own :) Can't wait to see all of the other crafts that people have made (and I can just envy from afar ;) )

  30. Are you sure we aren't related. I talk the same way you write. I also tell people that it's not fun to be in my head sometimes -- squirrel? Thanks for sharing. I really enjoy your blog!

  31. Hi..I just linked up. My is sort of unconventional. Kim at Finding Joy in 6th Grade saw a post on my blog this weekend and suggested I link up about a cake I made this weekend. I am still in "summer vacay" mode so I have not really made anything for my classroom..but I am "thinking" about it! Maybe for the next Made it Monday. Thanks for hosting this..what a super idea for sharing ideas!

  32. Yay! I was finally able to create a craft to add to the linky! The twins have been keeping me hopping this summer. I love this idea and seeing everything everyone is crafting and making for back to school!

  33. Oh Miss Tara!!! as always, I love all 3 of your lovely made-its!!! Both fun and functional!!! The math vocab cards you made are GREAT!!!! I need to make me some of those as well!! And your believe sign is absolutely adorable!! I want to make one of those too!!! Ahh, you inspire me!!!! :)

  36. I love the little sign you made! Adorable. Can I just tell you how much I love this link up? Seriously... what else would I do on a Monday besides add more to my to do list?!? :) Just makes the other days of the week more productive, right? :)

  38. Your sign is great! Thank you again for hosting such a wonderful linky party.

  39. I LOVE your sign! Made it Monday is the greatest. You should host a "Make it over Christmas vacation" or "Made it over Spring Break" linky. (:

  41. Your party is the place to be!!!! I'm so happy that it's totally taken off like this!!! You go, girl!!!
Unfortunately, I haven't made a darn thing - functional or otherwise.
    I'm just reading about it.
I am DYING over your believe sign. I think you could sell that!!!!

  43. Tara, I LOVE everything you made! That sign is awesome! I had to have the same talk with myself about "getting down to business" with some of my not-so-fun summer objectives:) Thanks again for hosting this awesome linky party! I look forward to Mondays because of it!!

  44. Tara, you are the teacher-crafting-queen!! I adore the sign, so beautiful and meaningful!

You cracked me up with "I overwhelm in a second"!! Boy do I get that! I've been hopping around your linky and enjoying it enormously--thank you for everything!!!

  45. Oh my goodness Tara! Your Made-It Mondays are rockin'!!! So happy for you! And I love your adorable sign. :)

  47. I LOVE the believe sign! My thing in my class is 'believe you can achieve' and the kids are always chanting it. They love it.

Hahha you're so funny, I'm glad you figured something out ;)

  48. I might just have to make a "word" for our classroom because I love it! Believe is a really good one...

So, I made something this weekend, and didn't think about the Monday made it linky, so it doesn't reference Monday Made It in my blog... yet. I'll go edit the post and add your button. Just trying this for the first time today so I hope it works!

    The {mis}adventures of first grade

  49. I love your believe sign! I agree with needing more functional stuff but the cute stuff is oh so fun. Your functional word cards are super cute so you could count them as cute/functional :)

    Teaching Star Students

  50. I understand what you are talking about creating functional classroom items. I like you math signs. Unfortunately, functional in middle school takes a less cute route...unless you thing interactive notes and power points are cute?! Lovely believe sign!

  51. Love the believe sign! I agree that I should be working on the functional... but in the summer, being on "break"- I love to do the cute stuff! The functional stuff wins out all year :) so I'm trying to compromise and do things that are both!

    Luckeyfrog's Lilypad

  52. Ok.. I LOVE it all - but I am TRULY OBSESSED with your BELIEVE sign!!!

  53. I love ALL of your stuff, but especially the functional "made it"! I made something functional this week too -- my first week linking up!

    Turtley Loving Teaching

  55. When I saw your Believe board, I was thinking to myself, I might and I do mean might could handle painting the circles, but there is NO way I could paint the word so pretty. So glad I read on, I think I can handle painting and glueing letters. I'll just have to get my daughter to do a quick spell check for me! haha

Kelly @ I'm Not Your Grandpa, I'm Your Teacher

  56. I want to tell you how inspiring you are. I have not found very many inspiring 4th grade stuff out here in la la land. I know these babies are almost grown, but on the inside, they still want to have fun. You have almost inspired me enough to start my own blog, but haven't made that leap yet. Keep inspiring and maybe I will fall off the fence onto the productive side! Bless you for all you share!

  57. I want to make one of those jewelry screens so badly. I think I'm going to investigate some yard sales or thrift stores to try to find a frame to use. I'm determine to link up with this party before summer is over.

  58. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, your believe sign! One of my favorite quotes is "Believe and you CAN achieve"! I just might have to make one of those signs for my classroom this year. Thanks for the idea!
Just found your blog and am loving it! I'm new to the blog world and would love it if you could stop by my blog. Any advice you could give me would be MUCH appreciated!
